Closing the Care Gap in Oklahoma City With the Oklahoma City metro area now surpassing 1.4 million residents, the demand for specialized mental health care has drastically outpaced supply, often leaving patients in Oklahoma County facing extensive waitlists to see a board-certified psychiatrist. This barrier to access is particularly devastating given the epidemiology of the condition: clinical studies confirm that nearly one-third (33%) of patients with Major Depressive Disorder will not experience remission with standard oral medications alone—a condition known as Treatment-Resistant Depression (TRD). For these thousands of Oklahomans, “waiting it out” is not an option. Zoe Psychiatry is bridging this gap in OKC, providing immediate, 5-day availability for Spravato® (esketamine) therapy, ensuring that patients with resistant neurobiology get the advanced, interventional care they need without the wait.

When Standard Antidepressants Fail, There Is Still Hope.

If you have tried multiple medications, therapy, and lifestyle changes but the weight of depression hasn’t lifted, you may be suffering from Treatment-Resistant Depression (TRD). You are not “broken,” and you are not out of options.

At Zoe Psychiatry and Sleep Medicine, we offer a breakthrough in mental health care: Spravato® (Esketamine). As a certified REMS treatment center serving Allen, Texas and Oklahoma City, we provide this FDA-approved advanced therapy to help patients find relief in hours, not weeks.

How Spravato® Is Different (The Science)

Traditional antidepressants (SSRIs like Prozac or Zoloft) work by increasing levels of serotonin, a chemical messenger in the brain. While effective for many, they don’t work for everyone, and they can take 4 to 6 weeks to show results.

Spravato® works differently. It targets the N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor and increases levels of glutamate, the most abundant chemical messenger in the brain. This unique mechanism helps restore synaptic connections between brain cells—essentially “repairing” the neural pathways that have been damaged by chronic depression. Because of this direct action, many patients experience a reduction in depressive symptoms within 24 hours of their first treatment.

What to Expect During Treatment

We have designed the Spravato® experience at Zoe Psychiatry to be safe, comfortable, and relaxing.

  1. Self-Administration: You will administer the nasal spray yourself under the supervision of our medical team in our private, comfortable treatment suite.
  2. Observation Period: Because Spravato® can cause temporary dissociation or sedation, you will relax in our clinic for two hours after administration. During this time, our staff monitors your blood pressure and ensures you are comfortable.
  3. Heading Home: You cannot drive for the rest of the day, so you will need a friend or family member to drive you home. Most patients return to their normal routine the next morning after a restful sleep.

The typical course of treatment consists of two sessions per week for the first month, tapering down as your symptoms improve.

Why Choose a REMS-Certified Center?

Spravato® is a potent medication derived from Ketamine. Because of its strength, the FDA requires it to be administered only through a restricted distribution program called REMS (Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy).

Zoe Psychiatry and Sleep Medicine is a REMS-Certified facility. This means our Double Board-Certified physicians and staff have undergone specialized training to administer this medication safely. When you choose us, you are choosing a clinical environment that prioritizes your physical safety just as much as your mental recovery.

Am I a Candidate for Spravato®?

You may be eligible for Spravato® therapy if:

  • You are an adult (18+) diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder.
  • You have tried at least two oral antidepressants without significant improvement.
  • You are currently taking an oral antidepressant (Spravato is taken with your daily medication).
  • You are struggling with depressive symptoms or suicidal thoughts (Spravato is FDA-approved for acute suicidal ideation).
